For my primary research, I had interviewed a couple of people just to find out what they find pleasing in a trailer and what they don't find appealing. I wanted a mixture of answers, so not only did I interview people in person I also had made a survey (on survey monkey) for other people to answer.
Footage of the interviews I had got.
The interviews were in a quiet comfortable area and were performed by Me and Sherene.
On the survey I wanted to found out more about what people liked about the technical side of trailers, for example the editing, the way it is styled, set (scene) and formed, whereas when it came to real-life interviews I just wanted to know the general questions such as :
What do people look for in trailers?
If they like sound in trailers and how long should a trailer be, to be entertaining to them.
From the survey I had managed to get a lot of responses (7)
Here is the answers and feedback that I had got
⇊
The feedback is very crucial to the production of my trailer, I want to produce a trailer that will be entertaining and intriguing to all types of audiences and ages, so doing this really helped me develop my ideas more about how I should style, form and create my trailer
From the survey and real-life interviews, I had received a lot of good and useful information that I will be able to later on contribute to my work when I am in production phase and editing stage.
I had learned different things from the different observations that I had carried out. I learned from the survey that most people would prefer that the trailer movie will be in-slang rather than in formal language, which was good to hear as me and my partner were planning to make a movie starring ghetto teenagers (who would most likely speak in slang).
Another thing I had learned from the survey is that :
People would like the scene to be set in various areas from being in the canteen, classroom, television studio, to being the most popular choice the hallways. In order to ensure I satisfy everyone's need I will try my best to shoot some of the scenes in these areas, if I experience trouble to do so, then I will just do the most popular choice, people had choose which was the hallway.
The music that people thought would be good to add to a trailer were instrumentals and songs with lyrics, so I will be looking at different types of instrumental beats and songs with lyrics that could relate and fit to the genre of my film which is a black ghetto comedy.
When it came to what people liked in transitions in trailers, the majority of people said they liked the slide right transition and slight left transition. When you look at the statistics and numbers three people said they liked the fade to black and fade to white transition, whereas six people altogether said they liked the slide right and slide left transition. From this response I will definitely be exploring this transition style (slide left & right) and will be adding it towards my work once I hit the editing phase.
Last but certainly not least, I asked people in the survey when would be the perfect season to release my trailer if It was to be an actual film. I had decided to ask this question just to see what people would say, for example if someone said fall maybe I could contribute some seasonal features of fall to my work when it comes to the editing process. I just wanted to see what season people would find appealing to watch a comedy film. When it came to results people mostly picked fall and three people altogether picked winter and spring.
The feedback I got from the real-life interviews.
For this task I had interviewed two males and Sherene had interviewed a female.
For this part of the research I wanted to find out what interests people in a trailer, what amuses them wether its the acting, cliff hangers or etc.
Summary of what people had said :
What interests them is the action and narrative story in the trailer, it must not give to much information up but it has to have the right type of information to engage an audience. Music is a necessity when it comes to trailers because it creates the mood and sets the atmosphere, it also entertains and leaves the audience not bored and disinterested whilst watching. Adding music will be good as well especially if it relates to the genre of the film.
A good duration for a trailer should vary from a minute and 35 seconds to being 2 minutes long (MAX) - Will be taking that into consideration in the production phase of my trailer
