Genres are very important when it comes to films, it helps divide every single movie in categories and makes it easier for viewers to watch a movie that they're attracted to, we have genres to satisfy everyone needs, when it comes to people everyone is different and not everyone is going to like one genre of a film, which is why there is a variety of genres in films such as :
Romance
Horror
Comedy
Sci Fi
Fantasy
and many more
That people have the choice to watch.
Below is some genres of film and their covers.......
Look at how they used certain colors and poses to relate to their genre.

Here is several romance movie covers, as you can see from the pictures they are all quite similar its quite obvious that this movie is representing itself as romance, because in every cover the couples are caressing each other and looking into each others eyes.
Even the font looks similar very spaced out and in the colors white or blue (the notebook)
What I had also noticed that behind every cover their is a powerful source of lighting shining against their skin and making some of them appear to be glowing.
Genre Definition : A genre is a french term which translate in english as a type or kind. Its a term highly associated in media and sets products into different types of groupings.
In a film they are very typical codes & conventions which helps shows what type of film it is. It is very common in Romance films to see the colors ''red'' - which is a color that symbolizes, love and lust. They would also use colors such as pink - a stereotypical girl color to attract females who generally (stereotypically) watch romance films.
The color pink is a color that symbolizes everything pink, girly, innocent & delicate.
TASK : ANALYSE THREE TRAILER FILMS
Secondary Research
For my research to create my trailer, I looked at three different trailers and decided to critically analyze them. Some of the trailers I had picked to analyze, are inspirations of mine of how I want the style of my work to be, and some are the same genres.
Picking different types of genres would be suitable to do, I don't just want to focus on my genre, I want to see the styles of others and their unique selling point in their trailers.
MONTE CLARO - 2011
Genre : Hungarian - ♡ American Romantic Comedy ♡
Demographics : PG
USP : A very famous actress/singer (Selena Gomez) is starring in it, which would draw an audience to watch if they're fans of her.
Users & Gratification ↓
Relatable opening scene ( going to high school and wanting to leave) (having a dream) - people could watch it for escapism, they feel a connection with her, they have a dream too!
The music used is up-beat and is optimistic, whilst the dialogue is short over it, saying a brief summary of her dream which is to go to paris. Its lets the audience know how hopeless she is in this world and how she yearns for her dreams to come true.
The transitions are very quick and move swiftly along, and whilst that occurs the music stops to add tension to the scene and shows the reality in which she faces, which is having to try and save up money to go to Paris. - (escapism again) - many people could relate to it, having to save up for a holiday or to get your dream house.
The pace of the editing is quick and jumpy and the short shots help shows how their journey is fast paced and leading them into all sorts of possibilities. Along with the editing, the music gets even more up-beat also and frequently stops to add suspense to the situations where the lead character has to imitate her ''fake identity'' or has to a make decision as her. The music goes from a up-beat optimistic sound to a strong bass sound which hints even more that their journey is starting to become intense.
The credits in this film is also fast paced and goes along with the use of song and narrative. The way the font is presented is clear and bold, its also in the color blue. The color blue is known to symbolize loyalty, confidence, wisdom and intelligence.
SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - 2010
Genre : Action Flim Comedy ☝
Demographics : PG-13
USP (unique selling point) : (Michael Cera) the lead actor who is famous for starring in movies such as Juno and Superbad, people who are fond of his works will want to see this film because of him.
Scott pilgrim was originally a comic series which was created by Bryan Lee O' Malley in 2004, it was about the same concept a guy name Scott Pilgrim who was a part-time musician living in Toronto. It later on turned into a movie which was produced and directed by Edgar wright, who based his works on the novel that Bryan had created. This is another unique selling point, as many people who were readers and fans of the novel were happy to see a movie being made of it, resulting in an bigger audience being made.
The editing is very animated in this film. the font is styled as if they were in a video game with physical hits being displayed on the screen, when someone gets punched you see the word ''smack'' animated in the background and shattered, to show how forceful the hit was, making the film appear cartoonish and eye-catching, as the effects used are very visible. There is a lot of emphasis on sound effects in the trailer, they're very forceful and over-exaggerated, which is understandable as this film is an action film.
The music is very common like any other action movie, lively and energetic similar to the beats of dubstep and plays over the scene highlights, where the drama and fighting takes place, but the music doesn't always start like this, at first the music is more slow paced setting the scene and concentrating on the main character and how nervous he is at the party (as he approaches a girl)
The transitions are slick and smooth, yet fast making the scenes flow together through using people to form some of the transitions (making a person walk past & then it suddenly changes to a different scene) Some of the other transitions move rapidly, appealing to the genre of the film which is action packed, you can see the transitions going from subtle to strictly formed, where the two videos are placed side to side together (sort of like a collage)
Freaky Friday - 2003
Demographics : PG
Genre : Fantasy-comedy Teen Film
USP : (Lindsay Lohan) a well-known actresses is one of the leads in the movie, she has starred in nostalgic tv programs such as Parent trap, Mean girls and many more programs.
(Jamie Lee Curtis), another well known actress who has starred in films such as Prom Night, Terror train, Road games and many more programs. Her latest being Scream Queens.
At first the trailer starts of very relatable it shows a teenaged girl struggling to wakeup when she has to prepare for school. It shows a brief scene of the teenagers life and how chaotic it seems to be, as her mischievous brother goes into her room and wakes her up with a blow horn. From seeing this scene it is very relatable to how some teenagers lifes are, stereotypically having an annoying brother and a mother who does not understand her. People, most likely teenagers could definitely be watching this for escapism as they could feel that Anna (the teenaged girl) is alike to them (and her life to).
The editing in this trailer is quick and quite swift, whilst having classic transitions such as fade, fade to black and side left to right, to show how fast and chaotic there lifes are. What i had also noticed that in the trailer when the damage is done and the mother and daughter switch bodies the music drastically changes and turns very up-beat and funky, which helped emphasized how crazy there lifes are going to be now that they have switched bodies.
The sound effects and music in this trailer overall range from up-beat funky music to rock to represent the girl and her personality, as she is a lead guitarist in a rock band. The other sound effects used in this trailer is a scratched record to show how everything is basically just going down hill. Other things heard are chime sounds when they begin to fight in the restaurant before switching into each other bodies. The chime sounds helps add a mysterious atmosphere to the scene before they switch bodies. It adds a creepy and magical feel to the scene. It makes you know that something peculiar is about to occur.
