Stop Animation - Actual Project + My ideas

Stop Animation Film Brief :

The concept of the video has to be short and simple. This task has to be done and produced on your own. I was told by my tutor that I could props if I wanted to.

Dear Diary,

Overall I have thought of some ideas of how I want my stop animation video to be. I really think it would be easy, fun and creative to create a stop animation advert on a children's toy. I wanted to show a doll moving whilst it is in the box and make it kick its way out of the box. (for this project I will purchase a doll from the pound store)

In order to ensure that this idea goes a success, I thought that it would be necessary to do some secondary and primary research, on my target audience which are 9-12 years olds, just to find out what they like in barbie adverts and barbie dolls.

For the primary research I plan to interview relatives of mine, of that age group and some of their friends. I would also like to interview the parents as they're the ones that purchase the dolls for their children. When it comes to the secondary research, I plan to look online for the current trend reports in children's toys and watch (children toy) ads that currently have stop animation in it.

2/11/2016 - Update on my idea

I feel like with my idea I was bit ambitious, especially when it came about making the toy burst itself out of the box, So I decided to pick an alternative idea which was an advert for skittles. Having seen several adverts quite a few of them caught my eyes such as skittles (taste the rainbow) and the advert of dolls (monster high). I want to keep both options open, so experimenting will take place with both of them.

03/11/2016 - Further Idea Update

A lot of ideas have came into my mine with this project, I felt like I had overworked myself and thought of several ideas because I wanted an easier outcome, I have now chosen to focus on the doll idea (only) as it was my original idea. Using the dolls is the best option for me, as I already have a vision of what I want it to look like, instead of the doll bursting its way out of the box I could make the box move. They're so many alternative actions I could make the doll do. I feel like just because I may not feel strong with making the doll kick themselves out the box, does not mean I should scrap the idea.

The following changes made is that I will now be purchasing three dolls and be taking inspiration from this Monster high doll ad.

The actions of the dolls will be simple and I will not proceed with the idea of them kicking themselves out of the box. I will be later thinking on and planning, my storyboard on the shots I want to obtain and the actions I want my prop to do.

I chose this advertisement video to take inspiration from, because one it involves stop animation, the kind of style that I am approaching my video with, and two because I love how it was structured and how it made the audience see a variety of dolls and the different and unique clothing that each one had. I hope to create my own version in this advert and add my own personal touch, style and creativity.
