Recording sound
Day 1 / Week 3
Introduction Foley & Sound effects for Film
This week I was introduced to Foley, which is the making of everyday sound effects that are added to television and films. What it does is enhances the sound, most of times in films and television when recording is taking place you cant really hear sounds such as footsteps, doors and typing on keyboards. What a Foley does is help make these sounds be heard a lot more clear and loud. It is very crucial to have Foleys in television and media as if it is not present when needed it can make a scene sound quiet and unprofessional.

Introduction to Adobe after effects & Adobe Bridge
Adobe after effects was very beneficial. I was taught how to use it a couple of days ago and it has helped give our work some personality and a nice style. Fonts on Premiere pro are very basic and mediocre, at least with Adobe after effects & Adobe Bridge it would help give our fonts unique transitions. Overall it helped make our work look a lot more professional.

Today I was given a task by our tutor Emma, She told me to make my own Foley's. I was asked to make our video concept very simple and straightforward.
Here is the worksheet I did, which was basically a draft planning of the shots that I wanted to produce. following the sounds that it would create, and how I could make a foley of it.

When partaking in this activity I was put in a group with Dennis and Tatum. Our video concept was someone who was walking into their office and typing on a computer. ( very simple I know) It was my first time using a rode microphone, and at first I did face some difficulties with how to record and how to stop recording on it, but eventually I got the idea of how it worked. What I planned to record was the sounds of someone typing on a keyboard, clicking a mouse on a desktop, walking into an office and the sounds of doors closing and opening. The foley's I had produced with the rode microphone were not that good. In the team I was in we never really had enough time and it was not really as loud as we wanted it to be. So I decided to re-record them.

Process : I finally re-recorded the new foley's and I must admit they did sound better and it did sound very clear. Re-recording was the best option ever as it helped improved my final edit.
Editing Process

The editing process was quite easy to do, especially when it came to syncing the specific sounds to the parts where we needed the foley.
All I needed to do was to hear the foley's that I had recorded, and cut them to a part where the sounds were performing the loudest and clearest. I had to make sure the foley's were accurate and placed in the timeline where the actress was doing those actions.
Here I present to you my final edit.
Evaluation + Changes/ improvements
Overall I see that there is room for improvement in the clips. Some of the clips are blurry and out of focus. I understand this and I can say that I ensure later on in the course there will be a significant change where my clips will appear and look more professional than now.
Also one fault is that the camera man recorded me in the background, when I was trying too see one of actresses walking. I was hoping that he would have not recorded me but he did. So next time in any future projects ill be specific to cut me out in scenes where I am not needed.
